Experience the exceptional quality of the Mishimaya Standard Grade Koto, a professional-grade instrument crafted by the renowned Japanese instrument maker, Mishimaya.
The body of the koto is meticulously hand-carved from a single piece of paulownia wood, known for its lightweight and resonant properties. The craftsmanship is further highlighted by the elegant karin wood decorations that adorn the instrument, adding a touch of sophistication to its appearance.
Underneath the soundboard, hand-carved sound grooves enhance the instrument's tonal quality, providing a rich and resonant sound that captivates audiences. The koto comes with 14 bridges, ensuring precise and stable tuning.
One of the standout features of this koto is the innovative Pegu Modern Tuning Device, developed by Mishimaya to make string changing and tuning easier than ever before. The strings are pre-strung and ready for setup, allowing you to start playing right away. The set includes a tuning wrench and detailed instructions to help you get started.
Additionally, the koto comes with a deluxe carrying case for easy transportation and free finger picks to enhance your playing experience. Measuring 6 feet in length, this professional-size koto is perfect for advanced players who demand the best in both quality and performance.
Embrace the elegance and superior sound of the Mishimaya Standard Grade Koto, and elevate your musical journey to new heights.

I bought this koto because a string broke on my previous koto and at the same time, the string-tightening mechanism I’d used for years stopped working. I live far from any koto community, so no help was available. One string broken, unfixable, and I could no longer play that koto, sigh. So, I thought the Koto-Mishimaya-Peg would be perfect. And it is!...with a bit of adjusting (see below).
When it arrived, I was delighted to see that is is much more attractive than the koto pictured on the Sound of Asia site. The wood markings are distinctive. And the sound is beautifully resonant.
Now to the adjustment: the strings were quite tight when it arrived. I couldn’t tune it to a low “C” like some songs require. I should have jumped in and figured out how to loosen the strings, but I was feeling quite timid, worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it, despite how easy it looked. If the instruction sheet that came with the koto says something about loosening the strings ASAP once you get the koto, I have no way of knowing that since I don't read Japanese, but I digress. Well, day three of playing on the very tight strings, and a string broke! Tears! Luckily, I have quite a few unused strings saved from my previous koto adventures (misadventures?) so I grabbed one and faced my fears. Turns out the koto makes it VERY, VERY easy to replace strings and tune. (Bonus: the instruction page has the best-ever illustration of how to make the knot around the piece that holds the far end of the string in place.) So, I replaced the string, loosened everything, and months later have had no more breakage.
To the person who figured out how to make this koto: Thank you! It is brilliant.
